Supporter & Transaction Tags

How to create filterable supporter and transaction tags

Written by Tony Sasso

Tags are one of the most flexible reporting tools in Funraise as they can be completely custom, automatically or manually added to records, and used to create specific segmented lists.

Tags can be added to both Supporters and Transactions. Tags are universal, which means when adding tags to a record, you'll be able to search existing tags to ensure you're using the correct tag and avoid duplicating tags.

Add tags to a Transaction

  1. From a Transaction profile > Find Tags > click Edit

  2. Search and select existing tags -or- click to create a new tag > click Save

Add tags to a Supporter

  1. From a Supporter profile > Find Tags > click Edit

  2. Search and select existing tags -or- click to create a new tag > click Save

Automatic Tagging

By adding tags to a Giving Form, you can apply tags automatically when new Transactions are created through that form. You can automatically apply both Supporter and Transaction tags with this method.

☝️ Automatic tags are most commonly used to assign Supporter tags based on transaction activity. For example, you may want to easily report on donors who gave at a particular event. The easiest way to do that would be to have a tag on the Support like, springfling2026 as that tag could be a simple filter in the Supporter section.

Apply tags automatically

  1. Access a Giving Form editor > Settings > General > Tags > click Edit

  2. Add Supporter and/or Transaction tags > click Save

Now, any new Transaction through the Giving Form will apply these tags to Supporter and/or Transaction records.

Good to know!

Automatic Tags are only applied when a Tansaction is created

  • Adding tags to a Giving Form will not update existing Transactions

  • Re-assigning a Transaction to a new Giving Form will not add automated tags

Tag syntax is important

  • Only letters, numbers, and underscores are valid tag characters. Other symbols or spaces are invalid.

  • Tags are not case sensitive
