If you're new to Funraise Events, we recommend taking a look at our overview of all things related to Events: Event Management 101.

Promo codes enable your guests to apply discounts to their ticket purchases. Each event can have multiple promo codes, which can be configured to apply a percentage or fixed amount discount to specific tickets.

Promo Code settings

Code

The custom promo code your guest will use to apply a discount. Codes are always uppercase. For example, FRIEND50 or VOLUNTEER2026

Discount Type

  • Percentage will reduce the ticket cost by a percent. For example, 30% off.

  • Fixed Amount will reduce the ticket cost by a flat amount. For example $50 off.

Quantity

  • Unlimited has no limit on promo code uses

  • Limit Uses only allows a specific amount of uses

Active

Active promo codes can be used by guests on your ticket form. An Inactive promo code can not be used.

Eligible Tickets

To allow a promo code to apply to all tickets for the event: Leave Eligible Tickets list empty.

You can optionally restrict promo codes for use on specific tickets. To set a promo code to apply only to specific tickets: Click Edit and select the tickets this promo code can be applied to.

3. After saving your promo codes, you can share your promo code with the appropriate audience. You'll see your new promo codes on the Ticket and Event profile where they apply:

When you add your event tickets to a Giving Form, you'll also see which promo codes can be used with tickets on the Giving Form.

Using Promo Codes

Any Giving Form with tickets will display the discount code option on the first screen of the form. Guests will use an intuitive flow to apply a discount code.

Guests can enter a promo code. Only one promo code can be applied per transaction.

The applied promo code will be displayed and the ticket cost will be adjusted to reflect the discount.

The final discount details will be displayed on the checkout summary.

Good to know!

☝️ Discounts and the tax deductible portion of a ticket transaction

When a discount is applied to a ticket purchase, the total amount of the transaction is first applied to the non tax deductible amounts of any tickets in the order and the remainder is then applied to the tax deductible amount.

For example: If a guest purchases one $100 ticket with a $75 tax deductible amount using a 50% off promo code — the transaction receipt will reflect:

  • Transaction Total = $50

  • Tax Deductible Amount = $25

This is because the final transaction amount ($50), was applied first to the non tax deductible amount ($25), and the remainder ($25) was then applied to the tax deductible amount.

Reporting on promo code usage

Promo codes are applied to Orders. To see how many orders have a particular promo code applied, you can filter a list of Orders.
