☝️ Features described in this article are preview features. Activate these feature in Settings > Preview Features > Paddle Raise.

☝️ If you're new to Funraise events, check out Events 101.

Each Event has it's own Paddle Raise experience and settings. Paddles Raises can be fully configured and run from within the Funraise desktop platform and you can use the Funraise App to submit paddles raises during your event.

In a nutshell, here's how Funraise's Paddle Raise tools work:

  • Set your custom Giving Levels for each event

  • During your live paddles raise, you'll enter paddles numbers either in the platform or in the Funraise mobile app

  • As soon as a paddle raise is recorded (and approved):

    • The amount will be added to your event's Live Display total

    • A commitment record will be created

  • After the event, you'll have a list of all the commitments from your donors and you can follow up to capture the pledge gift

Set up your paddle raise

The first step to configuring your paddle raise is to create Giving Levels. These are the amounts you'll ask event guests to pledge.

1. From your Event > click Paddle Raise > click Add Giving Level

2. Enter details > click Save

After creating your Giving Levels, you'll see them displayed in order. Giving Levels will always be sorted with the the largest amount first.

Auto-approval settings

You can choose to have new commitments created automatically as soon as a paddle raise is entered by any member of the team or you can require approval before the commitment is created and added to your Live Display.

When auto-approve is on, every paddle raise submitted is approved automatically. When auto-approve is off, new commitments appear as Unconfirmed in the Giving Level, requiring a member of the team to manually approve each commitment.

Recording live paddle raises

Paddle raises can be captured in the desktop platform or via the Funraise mobile app.

☝️ Your Live Display can show Giving Levels and pledge activity

Your event's Live Display can be configured to show the current Giving Level and a list of donors that have pledged at the current Giving Level.

In the desktop platform

1. Find the Giving Level > Search and select the guest by paddle # or name

2. Review the commitment details > click Add Commitment

As soon as the paddle raise is recorded, you'll see it in the commitment list.

In the Funraise Mobile app

In the app sidebar > select Events > select the current event > find Paddle Raise > click Open

2. Select the current Giving Level

2. Search by paddle # or guest name

4. Click to confirm the commitment

5. Commitment is confirmed and you can continue to create another.

Reporting on and charging paddle raise commitments

Behind the scenes, each paddle raise submitted creates a Commitment record in Funraise which provides robust pledge reporting and payment fulfillment tools.

While all commitments can be viewed in the standard list in Transaction > Commitments, event commitments can also be viewed directly in the Event manager > Commitments.

Paddle Raise commitments generally have the same functionality as standard commitments including the ability to charge a payment method on file. There are a few additional functionalities when a commitment is created via a Paddle Raise:

Automated donor pledge fulfillment email

You can choose to send an automated email as soon as a paddle raise is recorded. When activated: when a paddle raise commitment is created and the donor has a payment method on file, the donor can automatically receive an email to pay their pledge. This email provides a magic link to the donor portal where the donor can review and pay their commitment.

Commitment due date

When a Paddle Raise commitment is created, the collect date (due date) is set automatically to one-week in the future.
