✨ With Fundraising Intelligence

Analyze overall email performance

With Fundraising Intelligence, you can create data dashboards and custom reports to analyze your email performance. You'll have access to pre-built report templates to track email performance, but you can also build your own custom data visualizations and reports.

A few examples of email performance reporting capabilities with Fundraising Intelligence:

  • Report on email events like Delivered, Open, Click, Bounce, etc.

  • View how specific supporters engaged with your emails

  • View engagement metrics over time for a single email or multiple emails

  • Create calendar heatmaps to see patterns in your sending or engagement

☝️ Reporting Tip — Track donation revenue from emails

Tracking revenue from emails is easy! You can add UTM parameters to the links in your emails. Then, when a link is clicked, that UTM parameter will be added to the donation record, so you can view reports in Fundraising Intelligence based on that parameter.

New to UTMs? Consider these parameters as a starting place:

  • utm_source=email

  • utm_medium=email_blast

  • utm_campaign=[email_campaign_name]

  • utm_content=[email_name]

Email report template

With Fundraising Intelligence, you'll have access to a pre-built email performance dashboard template titled, Emails | Activity.

This report provides an overview of your email activity including engagement and issues. You'll be able to see performance details for delivery rates, open rates, and click rates. You can filter this report to see performance for specific timeframes, email campaigns, email templates, or even for a specific supporter.

⚠️ Issue Reports

You can also view issues with your email sends. Did you know that a delivery rate above 90% is considered good? All emails campaigns have sending issues including drops, bounces, or spam reports (described in the chart below).

Generally, an acceptable bounce rate is less than 2% and an good delivery rate is above 90%. The average delivery rate for emails sent from the Funraise platform is 97.7%.

Bounced, Dropped, and Spam Reported list

The Emails | Activity report template provides a list of email addresses that have bounced, dropped, or reported spam. It's a good idea to regularly review this list and unsubscribe supporters or update their email address.

Email event definitions

Email events tell you how a recipient engaged with your email and will be an important part of your performance tracking, below are the possible email events.

Event Name

Description

Processed

An email is queued and is preparing to be delivered.

Dropped

The email was not sent. This can happen to protect your sender reputation. Reasons for a dropped email may include spam detection or attempting to send to addresses that have previously bounced email or reported spam.

Deferred

When an email cannot immediately be delivered, but it hasn’t been completely rejected, the status is deferred. Sometimes called a soft bounce, Funraise will continue to try for 72 hours to deliver a deferred message. After 72 hours, the deferral turns into a block.

Bounce

If an email cannot deliver through a server, the status is Bounce. Bounces often are caused by outdated or incorrectly entered email addresses. Many times you won't know a bounced email address until it bounces, so this event can help you ensure it doesn’t bounce again by removing it from your lists.

We highly recommend unsubscribing bounced email addresses.

Delivered

When an email has been accepted at the receiving server. This event does not guarantee that the email was placed in the recipient’s inbox. In fact, a delivered email is only the beginning of an opaque process.

Open

The email was opened.

Click

A link in the email was clicked.

Spam Report

The email was reported as spam.

These status are also grouped into Event Categories and Delivery Types for easier performance reporting.
