What are Premiums?

Premiums are incentives or thank you gifts offered to donors when they make a contribution. They’re often used to encourage giving, promote loyalty, or highlight a campaign. A premium might be something tangible (like a t-shirt, mug, or tote bag), symbolic (like a commemorative pin), or experiential (such as event access).

If you've ever received a tote bag after making a donation from your local radio station — you've received a a premium.

In Funraise, you can create Premiums, configure the minimum donation amount that unlocks a Premium, and add them to your Giving Forms. The donation receipt for a premium purchase will display the total transaction amount and the Fair Market Value of the Premium.

Configure Premiums

1. Access Transactions > Premiums > Click New Premium

2. Configure Premiums details > Click Save

Add Premiums to a Giving Form

Once you have created Premiums, they can be added to any Giving Form.

1. Access a Giving Form > Settings > Premiums > Click Add Premium

2. Select Premium(s) > Click Save

You can also configure the order that premiums appear on the Giving Form. The item at the top of the list will always be the default selected Premium on the Giving Form.

When Premiums are added to a Giving Form, they will appear in a select list on the first page of the Giving Form.

How Premiums work on the Giving Form

  • The first Premium in the list will always be selected

  • If the donor's donation amount does not meet the minimum required for a selected Premium, the donor will see an error message letting them know:

    • "A X.XX minimum donation is needed for the selected Thank You Gift."

  • A donor can select "No Gift"

  • A donor can only select one Premium per donation

Premiums & Shipping Address

When Premiums are included on a Giving Form, a Shipping Address can be entered by the donor. The donor can also check a box to indicate that Shipping address is the same as billing address, allowing the donor to just enter one address.

🏠 Need an address for shipping?
If one of your Premiums requires a Shipping Address to mail the item to the donor, be sure to require a physical address in the Giving Form settings. If you do not require an address on the Giving Form, it's possible for the donor to skip entering their address.

Premiums & Transaction Receipts

When a Premium is added to a donation, donors receive an email receipt with important details, including: Total Transaction Amount, Fair Market Value of the Premium, and the name of the Premium.

Reporting on & Fulfilling Premiums

An important aspect of thank you gifts is fulfillment — viewing new Premiums that need to be sent and sending the donor their gift. Depending on the gift, this could be providing a link to a digital download or it could be mailing the donor their tote bag.

Premium orders are managed in Transactions > Orders

When a Premiums order is created, it will be in an Open status. After shipping/sending the Premium gift to the donor, you can mark the order as Complete.

The Orders Export CSV includes helpful information for fulfillment, including:

  • Status

  • Supporter Info (name, email, shipping address)

  • Premium code

Good to know

Offline Transactions & Premium Orders

To enter an Offline Transaction that includes Premiums, you must start by creating a New Order and then Create the Offline Transaction during that flow. (A Premium can not be added to an existing Transaction).

Premiums & Tickets

It is not possible to have Premiums on a Giving Form that contains tickets.

Premiums & Recurring Donations

The minimum amount required to unlock a Premium is met when that amount is selected on the form, no matter the frequency (One-Time or Recurring).

If a Premium is selected with a recurring donation, only one Premium Order will be created — for the first Transaction. (A Premium Order is not created with each recurrence of a Subscription).

After the first recurring transaction, the Premium details (Fair Market Value and Premium name) are no longer added to email receipts.
