*Currency Conversion — Any payment in a currency other than your organization's platform currency will incur an additional 1% conversion fee. Because you control the currencies available on your forms, you can avoid exposure to this fee as desired.

*International Payments — Starting June 1, 2023, Funraise Payments will assess an additional 1.5% for international payments. International payments are payments in a currency other than your organization's platform currency. Because you control the currencies available on your forms, you can avoid exposure to this fee as desired.

*Instant Payouts — You can configure your payout frequency in Stripe. There is no charge for scheduled payouts (daily, weekly, or monthly). Instant Payouts will be assessed an additional 3% of the payout amount.

Platform Fees

Although Funraise's platform fees are not processing fees, it's good to know that platform fees are additional fees assessed on payments. Funraise platform fees cover the cost of the software. While processing fees are consistent, your platform fees are based on your plan.

In most cases, your organization will be on Funraise's Donors Cover Fees plan, which provides an effective platform fee of 0% because Funraise only charges a platform fee if the donor chooses to cover the fee. It's good to know that when a donor covers fees, they cover the entire platform fee and a portion of the processing fees, which significantly reduces your effective processing rate as well.

In the case of a flat rate plan, your processing fee and your platform fee will be charged with each payment.

With Funraise Payments, both the processing fee and Funraise's platform fee are rolled into a single fee in Stripe called Application Fees.

A note about Donor Covers Fees V2 — If your organization has opted into the beta of Donors Cover Fees V2, your donors can choose their own fee coverage amount, rather than a binary option. This beta feature has shown promising results and we're hopeful we'll be able to release this improvement more widely soon.

Good to know

Data sync

In addition to basic payment data, Funraise sends helpful metadata to Stripe with each payment:

  • Supporter Name

  • Supporter Email

  • Supporter Address

  • Allocation

  • Form

  • Source URL

  • Recurring (T/F)

  • Company Match (T/F)

  • Anonymous (T/F)

  • Donor covered fees? (T/F)

  • Donor Covers Fees eligible? (T/F)

  • Soft credit (email address)

  • Transactions tags

  • UTMs (source, medium, campaign, content, term)

  • Order Id (Organization Id + Transaction Id)

Reconciliation reports can be exported from Stripe

Stripe reports are helpful for reconciliation because they include the total fees assessed with each payment, including both platform fees and processing fees. In Stripe, you can also access specific payout reports which include the details of funds deposited to your bank account. Learn more about helpful Stripe reports.

ACH limits

The default limit set by Stripe for ACH (echeck) payments is $6,000 per transaction and $10,000 per week. To request an increase to your ACH limits, you'll need to contact Stripe support. In order to increase your limit, Stripe will require your Funraise connected account to have been active for 4 months. A previous Stripe account will not count towards this 4-month timeline.

If you had a previous Stripe account with a larger ACH limit, Stripe may be able to match your previous limit and bypass the 4-month timeline. If this is the case, we recommend reaching out to Stripe support with your previous Stripe account ID.

Payouts

You can edit your payout frequency in Stripe: daily, weekly, or monthly. New accounts are defaulted to a daily payout schedule.

Instant Payouts incur a fee

Scheduled payouts (daily, weekly, or monthly) do not incur a payout fee. Instant Payouts incur a 3% fee. The ability to use Instant Payouts is granted by Stripe and may not be available to all organizations.

  • When you first create a Funraise Payments account, Stripe may delay your first payout during the account verification process

  • Some ACH payments may take longer than a day to clear

  • If you do not have access to edit your payout frequency in Stripe, contact us at support@funraise.org

Funraise Payments can not be connected to an existing Stripe account

When you create a Funraise Payments connection in Funraise's platform, you're creating a new Stripe account. A Funraise Payments account can not be connected to an existing Stripe account. Although, in Stripe's platform, you can manage multiple accounts under the same login email.

Chargebacks and disputes are resolved through Stripe

While Funraise Payments simplifies much of the costs associated with online payments, chargebacks and disputes are resolved through Stripe and may have their own fees.

2.9% + 30¢ USD

For organizations collecting donations in multiple currencies, it's good to know that the additional 30¢ that is assessed with the processing fee is 30¢ USD.
